The Orrysdale Road surgery has announced plans to join with West Wirral Group Practice, based at The Warrens in Thingwall.
In a joint message to patients published on their websites, the practices said the merger would provide “sustainable, high-quality healthcare for our community, now and in the future”.
They said GP practices across the country were facing increased demand, difficulties recruiting healthcare professionals and growing pressure on general practice.
“By joining together, we can strengthen our teams, share expertise and invest in new services, while continuing to deliver the personalised care our patients value,” they said.
Patients are promised improved access to appointments, a wider range of clinical expertise and greater opportunities to benefit from specialist services and innovative healthcare.
These could include expanded dermatology services and access to leading clinical research.
Both practice sites will remain open, allowing patients to continue receiving care close to home and, wherever possible, from clinicians they already know and trust.
The practices said the merger was about building on the strengths of both surgeries while preserving continuity of care, local access and strong relationships with patients.
They added that they would continue to keep patients informed and work closely with their Patient Participation Groups as the plans progress.
Several drop-in sessions about the plans have already been held, with another event due to take place on Tuesday, October 6, from 3pm to 5pm.
