Mitchell Prest, one of two young props signed from Down Under for 2027, has starred with Mackay Cutters in the Queensland Cup this year.

So much so that the 23-year-old has been named the competition’s prop of the year at a glittering awards ceremony held at Brisbane City Hall today.

Prest was a key figure in both the SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg teams at Canberra Raiders before joining the Cutters.

Wolves chiefs will see Prest’s gong as a further sign that their recruitment strategy is hitting the mark.

Wire fans will be interested to note that the club’s former Papua New Guinean centre Rodrick Tai, who now plays for Central Queensland Capras, was named centre of the year.

The other prop Warrington have signed for 2027 is New Zealander Toby Crosby, also 23, from Penrith Panthers.

Crosby played a key role in the New Zealand Warriors side that won last year’s New South Wales Cup.

Both are heading to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on two-year contracts.

At the time their signings were announced, Wolves head coach Burgess said about Prest: “There’s still lots of development ahead of him, but we’re confident he can continue to improve and make a real contribution to this club in the future.”
