Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers has called for a new storyline involving her character Lisa Connor-Swain, one which would explore her alter ego’s elusive backstory.
It’s been a very dramatic year for Lisa, who got the shock of her life when she discovered her late wife Becky was in fact alive, then experienced a mother’s worst nightmare when her teenage daughter Betsy suffered a stroke.

Vicky delivered some brilliant performances over the last 12 months, and she was awarded Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards for the second year in a row, voted for by soap fans.
At the ceremony, which was held in Manchester this week, Vicky spoke exclusively to Inside Soap about what she is excited to play as Lisa over the next year – and she is keen to delve deeper into her character.
“Well first, it would be really important for Carla to be in the frame a lot with it being Ali King’s 20th year,” she says. “But for Lisa, it would be great to have domestic scenes because we love those.
“It would be interesting to unpick her past about her family, because she’s a bit of an enigma. I love the fact that no one knows her birthday!”
For now, however, Lisa’s focus is on Betsy, who is attempting to rebuild her life after her stroke. Next week, Betsy secures an interview for a local fashion course so she heads back to Underworld to get some practice in.

Betsy is incredibly nervous for her interview, but Lisa makes sure she is around to be by her side on the big day.
On this important story, Vicky remarks: “She had this bright future ahead that she was shattered, but it’s a story of hope because that doesn’t mean it’s over. Invariably, people are talking over her while she’s in a chair and I can relate to that; my brother is a wheelchair user.
“It’s not people wanting to be rude, they just don’t know what to say – I find that calm explanations are heard. These things need to be visible; it’s okay to have a commode there. It’s not a taboo subject; this is the reality, so let’s do it as realistically as we can.”
