Coronation Street stars Sue Devaney and Sally Carman-Duttine have spoken exclusively to Digital Spy about Carl Webster becoming the top suspect in Eva Price’s attack mystery.
Carl is baffled this week as the police drag him down to the station for questioning about his movements on the day that Eva was pushed down the cellar stairs at the Rovers Return.

Viewers know that Sam Blakeman accidentally caused the incident when he pushed past Eva while searching for his missing phone at the pub, but he’s currently keeping very quiet about his involvement.
Speaking exclusively to us on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2026, Sue revealed that Debbie’s loyalties will now be tested as Carl’s mum.
“She’s mortified – but I think Debbie thinks that it is Carl!” Sue told us. “She finds lots of money somewhere and she thinks that it is Carl.
“She has to ask everybody else, because she doesn’t know if she’s imagining it or if she’s feeling anxious or paranoid.
“She’s disappointed in him, because she loves him.”

Sharing Abi’s perspective, Sally added: “That’s the problem – because he’s got form, hasn’t he? So what do you do?
“I think Abi’s just like ‘oh whatever!’ She’s like a cat – you know when you bring a dog into the house and she’s like ‘whatever, I suppose I’ll have to put up with you!'”
Kevin Webster and Ronnie Bailey are initially responsible for pushing the theory that Carl tried to steal money from the Rovers Return and lashed out at Eva when his efforts went wrong.
Fortunately, there’s one key player fighting Carl’s corner – Eva herself, who refuses to believe that he attacked her.

Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva, recently told us: “There’s something in the back of her head – deep down she knows it’s not him. Although Eva and Carl haven’t had that many scenes together, whenever they have it’s always been quite a nice exchange.
“Eva very much speaks as she finds – especially when it comes down to customers who are coming in and out of a busy pub. She’s like: ‘Well, you know, he’s always been alright with me. Why would he do it?’ It makes no sense to her. So straight away, she doesn’t believe that it’s him.”
