The journey began in 2023, after Mark spent a month trekking through the Cascade Range in America’s Pacific Northwest. Near the town of Boring, he decided to cycle home to the UK.

He chose a route linking Boring with Dull, a village in Scotland. The communities are “paired for the ages” because of their names. His route also included Iceland, turning the idea into a trans-continental adventure.

Mark will discuss the journey as part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s (RSGS) Inspiring People programme.

He said: “In this talk I will share the story of my 2023 trans-continental cycle ride from Boring (Oregon) to Dull (Scotland): a mad idea that became reality.”

His Helensburgh talk will start at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 29, at Victoria Halls in Sinclair Street.

Mark said: “I’m looking forward to sharing this memorable life experience with you in late October, and I will do my best to bring every aspect of this challenge to life.”
