The family-run business specialises in bespoke kitchens, staircases, furniture and architectural joinery, combining Scottish timber and other natural materials with contemporary design.
Over four decades, the company has completed projects for venues including Edinburgh’s W Hotel, Monkey Bar, Bouzy Rouge, Café Antipasti, Bar Bola, Meat Bar and Palomino.
Its drinks industry clients have included Isle of Arran Distillers, Glenfiddich and Ben Lomond Gin, while the firm has also undertaken work for residential and commercial clients across the UK and internationally.
One of its highest-profile commissions came in 2014, when the company was asked to design and hand-craft 96 wooden medal podium sets for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The team also created medal trays and 1,500 wooden quaichs presented to winning athletes, putting the company’s work in front of an international audience.
More recently, Paul Hodgkiss Designs was lead designer for Luss Distillery, which was completed in 2025. The team developed a “Scottish Contemporary” concept combining modern design with traditional materials and methods.
Working alongside experiential marketing agency Hot Pickle, the company coordinated builders, architects and tradespeople to create a consistent design across the distillery.

The project incorporated local timber, traditional structural techniques and innovative finishes, including timber frames and frameless glass walls designed to integrate the gin brand into the building itself.
Luss Distillery has since received a five-star quality rating from the Association of Visitor Attractions.
The company has also supported the next generation of craftspeople, with 26 apprentices having trained with the business during its 40-year history.
Paul Hodgkiss, founder of Paul Hodgkiss Designs, said: “The last four decades have been an exciting and amazing journey.
“I’ve always loved the challenge of design, working with wood and other natural materials.
“Forty years on, I’ve witnessed some highs and lows, but thankfully mostly highs and I’m particularly proud that, in that time, we’ve welcomed 26 apprentices who have become the next generation of experts in wood design.
“To think I’d still be here, surrounded by a team of specialists blows me away.
“I’m incredibly proud to have remained loyal to the Southside of Glasgow and that’s rewarded me with such a talented team and loyal customers across the country that genuinely appreciates real craftsmanship, rather than the throwaway culture that is so present today.
“The bespoke projects have tested my skills and have evolved real blood, sweat and tears, but I think I take the greatest pride in knowing that our kitchen and other interior wood-based designs have transformed the homes of our clients.
“There’s something quite humbling in knowing that you’ve played a small part in turning a house into a family home that will last for generations.”
