Mark Wedgwood will speak about his trans-continental journey at Kyle Academy on Wednesday, October 28.
His ride began in 2023, after a month trekking through the Cascade Range in America’s Pacific Northwest.
While near Boring, Oregon, he decided to cycle home to the UK, travelling through Iceland before reaching Scotland.
The route linked Boring and Dull, two communities paired because of their names. Mark’s talk will explain how coincidence and opportunity led to an adventure covering almost 4,000 miles.
His event is part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Inspiring People programme.
Mark said: “I am really excited to once again take part in the RSGS Inspiring People talks. Being a speaker to such genuinely curious and knowledgeable audiences in many Scottish venues was a brilliant experience, so I’m thrilled to be asked back.”

He added: “In this talk I will share the story of my 2023 trans-continental cycle ride from Boring (Oregon) to Dull (Scotland): a mad idea that became reality.”
The Ayr talk starts at 7.30pm at Kyle Academy. Tickets are free for RSGS members, students and under-18s.
General admission costs £15. Tickets can be booked online at rsgs.org/events or bought at the door.
