Lindsey said that her late husband ‘would have been so proud’ of his old friend. She added: “It’s bittersweet that Rob’s not here to see Kevin finish his final challenge but Rob will be with us in spirit.

“It’s testimony to Kevin that he’s so humbled to do this not just for Rob but for the whole MND community. It’s just incredible.

“I am in complete awe of the efforts of Kevin and his team over the last seven days, and not just over the last seven days but over the last seven years.”

Jack, 22, went to see his dad in the stand after the game.

He said: “I went up to see him and they were all buzzing.

“That was probably my favourite bit just going up to see them guys and see how proud they were.

“He was just happy, he knows what it takes to go and win one and he knows it’s not easy, he was just really happy for me and I look forward to seeing him now. I’m massively proud of my dad.”

Jack told All Out Rugby League: “I’ve always looked up to my dad because of the person that he is and the dad that he is.

“I’m so proud of him and so happy to have him here as well as my family and my girlfriend. I’m just really glad he’s here.”

Jack described the final as a ‘dream come true’. Leeds Rhinos legend Rob died in 2024 after living for more than four years with MND. At the age of 41, he lost his courageous fight with MND after being diagnosed in 2019.

He told how his children had inspired him “never to submit” to the disease in one of his last interviews. He expressed his hope that Macy, 14, Maya, 11, and seven-year-old Jackson knew how much they meant to him

Sinfield snr completed seven ultramarathons in seven days, raising more than £13m for the MND community with his team.

He said: “The rugby league community has got right behind the MND community and Rob would be so proud to see how you’ve supported and cared, and showed your love for a community that really needs us.”

Sir Kevin was surprised by royals, including The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Princess Royal, as well as famous names from the sporting world. He was supported by ex-England football manager Sir Gareth Southgate and Steve Cram.

Each day was split into 7km, hour-long blocks with an additional extra mile for members of the MND community to join.

Funds raised by the challenge will go towards the work of the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, My Name5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer Foundation, MND Scotland and the Irish MND Association.

He told the Mirror that 7 in 7 finale will not be the end of his quest to find a cure for MND in memory of his old friend Rob.

“The assumption has been made that’s it,” he said. “I have never said that, I have been consistent in the message that I am in this for life.

“What it looks like going forward, I don’t know yet. But while I am still able to run and contribute and support, I will keep trying to do my little bit.”
