Leeds Rhinos have confirmed a loan signing just one week before the transfer deadline, and it comes in the shape of another Salford Red Devils player.

Joe Shorrocks, who has been widely reported to join Brad Arthur’s side this year, has now had his move to AMT Headingley confirmed, in what is now the 15th departure from Salford this season.

Leeds have already benefitted from Salford’s downfall this year, after bringing back club legend Kallum Watkins in April, before signing Chris Hankinson last month.

The Red Devils released the following statement confirming his departure:

“We can confirm Joe Shorrocks has joined Leeds Rhinos on loan until the end of 2025.

“The 25-year-old signed for the Reds from Wigan Warriors in November 2023 after bursting onto the scene as a hard-working, industrious forward.

“Across his time at the club, Shorrocks has made 44 appearances, scoring twice and becoming a versatile asset for Paul Rowley’s side.

“Everyone at the Club would like to thank Shoz for his efforts in a red shirt and wish him the best for the rest of the season.”

Shorrocks excited to sign for Leeds Rhinos

Shorrocks has commented on his signing, admitting it will be good to re-unite with his former teammates:

He said to the club website: “I am delighted to be able to get the deal over the line and finally be in with all the boys. I had some positive meetings this morning with the coaches and I know what they want from me and I’ve said to them what I can offer to the squad.

“It’s nice to see Kallum and Chris after not seeing them for a few weeks or months, and myself and James McDonnell came through the scholarship and Academy at Wigan, so it’s nice to be back playing with them all.”

Leeds Rhinos face Hull KR this week, in arguably the clash of the round. A win for Leeds will put them level on points with second placed Wigan Warriors, who face Wakefield on Sunday.
