John Fury will not be attending his son’s December 11 battle with Anthony Joshua in Cardiff.

The pair have become estranged in recent years with Fury Snr believing that Tyson, now 38, should already be long retired.

Fury Snr retired at the age of 27 before coming back for one last fight when he was 30. He retired for good in 1995 with a record of 8-4-1 (1 KO).

He’s concerned about the long-term effects that his son’s career may cause. He also believes Joshua, who will be 37 when the bout takes place, should also consider another line of work.

The 61-year-old, however, has all but given up on trying to advise Tyson.

“There’s no more I can do for Tyson,” he said.

“I look at him as a father with children, and if he gets brain damaged, it is worrying.

“If anything happens to him and he gets injured permanently, the money means nothing to you.

“These things can happen at their stage of their lives, it has become dangerous for him and Joshua.

“For me it is an accident waiting to happen. When you carrying on boxing too long, the inevitable could happen.”

Even if Tyson was to ask his father to be there, the answer would still be the same.

“Let me tell you, you have more chance of seeing a cow fly than me bothering with it,” John said.

“I don’t like the people in it, and I know accidents can happen. I’m not involved, so I don’t want to go to the fight.

“I’ll be doing what his mother does. I’ll wait for somebody to tell me who wins the fight.

“I don’t need validation to go to a boxing match and sit there and be an absolute spare prick at the wedding.”
