Muchova held three match points at 5-4 on Osaka’s serve before the Japanese star saved all three. The Czech then missed three more chances in the deciding-set tiebreak before finally sealing victory with a backhand volley winner. The result moves Muchova to 5-3 in her career head-to-head with Osaka.

Fifth seed Linda Noskova endured a far different afternoon, falling 6-2, 6-2 to No. 19 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in just 66 minutes.
The defeat ends Noskova’s Beijing campaign after she reached the China Open final last year. Alexandrova did not drop serve throughout the match and secured her first China Open quarter-final, while also recording her 22nd career victory against a Top-10 opponent.

Fourth seed Mirra Andreeva produced another authoritative display, dispatching Daria Snigur 6-2, 6-2 in 63 minutes. She broke serve five times and lost her own delivery just once, while striking 18 winners against 15 unforced errors.
