BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Bangor’s own Stephen King attended a book release in the Queen City Tuesday evening at Bookspace on Columbia Street.
Three of the 36 authors, Richard Chizmar, Catherynne M. Valente, and Michael Koryta, who worked with him on the new book The End of the World As We Know It spoke about it and their creative processes.
The book itself is an anthology of short stories building upon The Stand, King’s longest work.
King authorized it and wrote the book’s introduction.
It was released worldwide on August 19th.
Gibran Graham, who owns The Briar Patch Bookstore in Bangor tells us he’s already sold out, though he has more copies on the way.
We asked Stephen King what it felt like to have other authors expand on his original story.
“It feels really good. I mean I think it’s nice that they care enough to do that and that they remember the book and carry it to another generation. So, I think that’s great,” said King
“The authors did these events all across the country including Canada and London. So, it really was sort of worldwide. It’s pretty good to be included and have that happen here in Bangor,” Graham stated.
King spoke also spoke about his writing process in The Stand at the end of the Q and A with the authors.
When he didn’t know where to go in its plot, he said he took the advice of novelist Raymond Chandler who said to have a man come in with a gun.
