Hello!

Welcome back to Spin Cycle.

October signals one thing: the road cycling season is almost over. That means most of the world (apart from us absolute sickos) decides to forget about bike racing for a few months of the year.

Cognisant of that fact, it’s no surprise brands have wheeled out their star riders for one final activation before they’re allowed to hibernate for winter (AKA go to Calpe for a few weeks).

Oh, and if you stick around until the end there is a ‘video’ of Laurens ten Dam that you are definitely going to want to see. Trust us.

Consider that product… PLACED 💆‍♂️

Paul Seixas is now a Breitling ambassador, the surest sign yet of his bicycling ability as he signs a contract with Big Watch.

Sure, he actually signed the deal with the company before this year’s Tour de France, but we were all a bit busy and distracted. So how best to re-announce this to the world?

How about getting a BMX rider to jump over his prone body, lowering his front wheel so low that it boops him on the nose?

We can’t stop watching it. It’s very early 2010s coded. Feels very planking. Like a flashmob is about to erupt at any second.

And if that hasn’t quite sated your appetite (how?), here’s Jasper Philipsen promoting the latest Samsung folding phone. Surely the haphazard Philipsen is the last person to be trusted with one of these? That massive screen will be cracked in days. The fold in the middle will surely be visible within hours.

Dodgy race safety incident number 3,648 AND 3,649 🤦‍♂️

Lotto-Intermarché’s young prospect Jarno Widar took his first professional win at Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday, outwitting both Tom Pidcock and Matteo Jorgenson with a well-timed, canny sprint in the finale. The 20-year-old Belgian will now race his debut Monument at Il Lombardia on Saturday as final preparation before the Tour of Guangxi begins on Tuesday.

But before the fun finish, there was a serious moment near the start a few hours earlier that had Pidcock contemplating whether to abandon the race in disgust.
