Christchurch Pharmacy won the top award at the Independent Pharmacy Awards on Wednesday, September 30.

The ceremony at the House of Commons celebrated independent pharmacists across the UK, and was attended by pharmaceutical executives and leading figures from the pharmacy sector.

Led by pharmacist Baba Akomolafe, Christchurch Pharmacy has developed into a multidisciplinary health hub.

The pharmacy combines technology, clinical expertise and teamwork to provide accessible, person-centred healthcare.

The team includes three pharmacists, three accredited checking technicians, four dispensing assistants, a private GP, a healthcare practitioner and a healthcare assistant.

Judges praised the pharmacy’s investment in automation, digital systems, staff training and integrated clinical services, helping it deliver care closer to patients’ homes.

The pharmacy has introduced a dispensing robot, workflow software, a redesigned website and a 24-hour prescription collection point.

The changes have streamlined dispensing and freed pharmacists to provide clinical services.

Each month, the pharmacy provides more than 380 NHS clinical interventions.

They include 250 New Medicine Service consultations, 65 hypertension case-finding consultations, 40 Pharmacy First consultations, 23 NHS contraception service consultations and regular ambulatory blood pressure monitoring clinics.

Christchurch Pharmacy also developed the Community Pharmacy National Booking Service.

The platform is used by pharmacies across Braintree, allowing patients to find and book NHS Pharmacy First appointments online.
