James Blunt on ‘Traitors’ (BBC)Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

We’re officially past the Celebrity Traitors halfway point and victory for Traitor Maya Jama seems more likely than ever.
Jama has been in her element conspiring in the turret and has expertly conspired with her accomplices, James Acaster and new recruit King Kenny.
In Friday night’s (16 October) episode of the BBC reality show, comedian Joe Lycett immediately emerged as a primary suspect, having spent much of the previous episode stating how much he wished to be recruited as a Traitor.
After a mission in which the contestants were divided into two teams and tasked with assembling statues, Lycett was set upon at the roundtable, and ultimately eliminated by vote, before he revealed he was a Traitor.
Actor-presenter Ross Kemp and comedian Joanne McNally also aroused suspicion, but remained in the game. Towards the end of the episode, the Traitors were tasked with “murdering” one of their fellow contestants in plain sight.
At the end of the hour, it seemed as though one of either Kemp or Jerry Hall were on the brink of being murdered.
In an interview for The Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked, Lycett was visibly stunned when he learned the Traitors’ identities, remarking: “They’re never going to find them.”
Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One at 8pm.

Who is Joe Lycett tipping to win the series?
“I think Romesh is a front runner. I think he’s kind of unreadable but may get heat just on that basis. Then I think there could be a real curve ball, like Jerry or Joanne, someone who’s playing it in a way that’s out there. I’ve gone to Round Tables not knowing who I was going to vote for, and I don’t know who’s a Traitor – any of them could win at this stage.

More from Joe’s exit interview:
BBC: Did you have a game plan?
Joe: My game plan of using stats wouldn’t have worked, because those stats required the Traitors not knowing them. I couldn;t rely on them, which is sort of like in hindsight, why I think I just threw all the cards in the air that night and went ‘recruit me’, because I felt like I’ve got nothing now as a Faithful so I felt that my game plan had amounted to precisely zero, and it was time to try a different tactic, basically.

Joe Lycett gave an interview after leaving the show, some amusing nuggets here.
BBC: Do you think being so vocal about wanting to be a Traitor was ultimately your downfall?
Joe: “I’m a silly billy – it was a combination of me begging for recruitment and then the Faithful being thick as mince and not thinking the obvious recruitment would be Joe.
“I don’t blame them, because I would have done the same. I concede I’ve done this very much to myself, but I was too hungry to be recruited. And you know, if being passionate is a crime, then banish me from the castle.”

“Maya is one of the most brilliant Traitors we’ve ever seen,” says Clare Balding, speaking now on Uncloaked.
It’s hard to disagree…

What did we think of that? Bit of a slow burn at the moment, in my opinion. Needs some more DRAMA
