Approval has been granted for a tennis club to create new all-weather courts.
Planning officers at Newark and Sherwood District Council have given the green light to the Newark Tennis Club plans.
The club will now replace two existing grass tennis courts with two new hard surface all-weather courts, stating that this will allow players to use the courts regardless of conditions or time of year.

The courts are located to the rear of Newarkâs former Lilley and Stone School on London Road, with the site featuring four existing hard courts.
Following approval, the surface of two grass courts will now be replaced with a porous asphalt which will reduce the risk of standing water and assist with drainage.
Green and red concrete edging will also be added to match the adjacent existing hard courts.

An existing fence between the courts will be relocated, but remain at the same height. There will also be no change to any of the external lighting.
Newark Town Council objected to the plans on the grounds that the proposal will lead to the removal of the only remaining grass tennis courts in Newark, with councillors noting that the club already has hard court provision.
Submissions by neighbouring residents raised no objections to the plans.
There were, however, some concerns about floodlighting and a request that increased car parking spaces be considered to avoid visitors to the tennis courts from parking on nearby roads such as Lime Grove.

No heritage or conservation issues were raised.
