2026 continues to be a big year for Star Trek videogaming with yet another title arriving today: Star Trek: Outposts Unknown. The the SimCity-like building game set around Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was just released for PC and Mac via Steam, allowing wannabe captains the opportunity to build Starfleet-backed colonies on planets no one has gone to before.
Outposts Unknown out now
In Star Trek: Outposts Unknown you take command of the outpost builder-ship, the U.S.S. Resonant. Players lead their crews “across strange new worlds shaped by iconic Star Trek technology, scientific discovery, and interstellar mystery,” said publisher Playstack, celebrating the launch of the title as developed by Magic Fuel Games.

But it’s not all base-building in Outposts Unknown. Teased in the announcement is a bigger story: “As exploration expands across the system, a mysterious cosmic force threatens a new ally, requiring careful leadership, coordination of crew, and strategic planning.”

Console release?
At Outpost Unknown‘s initial announcement, the game was confirmed as “the first-ever Star Trek colony-builder [coming] to PC and console.” Since then, there has been no details on a console. A spokesperson tells TrekMovie they currently have no news to share about a console release but will keep us posted.

If a release on consoles actually occurs, it’s likely that an Outposts Unknown console release would include the likes of the Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. Hopefully, it would also mean a release on the newest console to hit the market: the Switch 2. As we said back at the game’s announcement, all of this is conjecture at the moment; we’ll of course report back when console availability is reconfirmed and further detailed.
