Ocean City, Maryland, is preparing for a weekend when the sound of crashing waves will have some serious competition. Iron Maiden, Korn and Bad Omens are among the biggest names heading to the Atlantic coast for Boardwalk Rock 2027, a three-day celebration of heavy metal, hard rock and alternative music taking place May 14–16.
The festival, produced by C3 Presents, will also feature Alice in Chains, Breaking Benjamin, Good Charlotte, Marilyn Manson, The Prodigy, Judas Priest and Cypress Hill, bringing together several generations of artists who have helped shape the louder corners of popular music.
It’s an impressive collection of bands for a weekend at the beach.
Iron Maiden’s appearance is particularly exciting. The British heavy metal pioneers have spent decades turning elaborate stage productions, galloping basslines and epic songs into one of rock’s most enduring live experiences. Their inclusion was announced alongside new tour dates, adding another major North American festival appearance to the band’s schedule.
For fans of classic heavy metal, the lineup also includes Judas Priest, another legendary British band whose influence stretches across generations of guitar-driven music. Having both groups on the same festival bill gives Boardwalk Rock an especially strong connection to metal’s history.
Korn bring an entirely different kind of heaviness. The California band helped define nu metal in the 1990s, combining downtuned guitars, unsettling atmospheres and Jonathan Davis’s unmistakable vocals into a sound that changed the direction of mainstream rock. Their music remains a major influence on younger artists working across metal, hardcore and alternative music.
Bad Omens represent another chapter in that evolution. Their combination of modern metal, atmospheric electronics and emotionally charged songwriting has helped them connect with audiences across several genres. Sharing a festival lineup with Iron Maiden and Korn places them alongside artists whose work helped establish the musical landscape they now inhabit.
That’s one of the most interesting things about Boardwalk Rock’s lineup. It brings together bands from different eras while highlighting the connections between their sounds.
Alice in Chains add the dark, harmony-rich intensity of Seattle’s alternative rock history, while Breaking Benjamin bring their combination of heavy riffs and melodic songwriting. Good Charlotte introduce a dose of pop-punk energy, drawing from the era when guitar-driven anthems became an essential part of mainstream youth culture.
Marilyn Manson brings industrial-influenced rock to the weekend, while The Prodigy add the explosive electronic sound that helped bring rave culture and rock audiences together. Cypress Hill offer another crossover, representing the longstanding relationship between hip-hop and heavy guitar music.
The result is a festival where listeners can move between traditional heavy metal, nu metal, alternative rock, electronic music and hip-hop without leaving the grounds.
Boardwalk Rock also has a setting that makes it stand out from the usual festival experience. The event takes place directly along the Ocean City waterfront, giving concertgoers access to the famous boardwalk and its restaurants, bars, shops and other attractions.
The festival grounds include Jolly Roger at the Pier, an amusement park that adds another layer of entertainment to the weekend. It’s easy to imagine spending an afternoon exploring the boardwalk before returning to hear some of the heaviest bands in the world.
Few festival experiences offer quite that combination of roller coasters, ocean views and Iron Maiden.
Boardwalk Rock made its debut in 2025 with a lineup featuring Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Nickelback and Shinedown. That inaugural edition established the event’s focus on major rock acts, and the 2027 lineup continues the approach with an even broader range of heavy music.
The festival shares its Ocean City location with Oceans Calling, another C3 Presents event. Oceans Calling’s 2026 edition, which was scheduled to feature Dave Matthews Band, Twenty One Pilots and Mumford & Sons, was cancelled because of severe weather affecting the region. Organizers expect that festival to return in its usual late-September period in 2027.
For Boardwalk Rock, the upcoming May weekend promises three full days of music and access to the surrounding beachfront attractions. Ticket options include single-day and three-day passes, with general admission and VIP packages available.
VIP amenities include private lounges, air-conditioned restaurants, dedicated bars and concierge services, offering several ways to experience the event.
The ticket presale begins October 22 at 10 a.m. ET, with the lowest-priced general admission tickets available during the first hour. General sales begin at 11 a.m. ET, subject to remaining inventory.
With Iron Maiden, Korn and Bad Omens helping lead the lineup, Boardwalk Rock 2027 is shaping up as a major destination for heavy music fans. The combination of established legends, modern favourites and artists from across rock’s many branches gives the festival an appeal that reaches well beyond any single genre.
Ocean City already knows how to throw a beach party. Next May, it’s adding considerably more distortion.
