A schoolboy from Hull, who has Tourette syndrome, autism and ADHD, has impressed with his raw talent for photography. Kieran Edgley has stunned his mum and others around him with his remarkably sophisticated shots of his surroundings and further afield.

The 11 year-old Trinity House Academy pupil, who is in Year Seven, only picked up a camera about six to eight months ago but has since shown a real ability for composition. And now his mum Claire is encouraging him to pursue the hobby.

She explained: “He’s a really bright lad. He has autism, ADHD and Tourette syndrome but he excels at school and he’s such a kind hearted little boy – and he loves taking pictures.”

A recent ferry trip with his dad to Amsterdam gave Kieran the chance to snap some spectacular scenes. And others he has captured locally, including at Hessle Foreshore, using an iPhone.

“He has got a real eye for it and now I want him to take photography at school,” said Claire. “I’ve said to him, he could do wedding photography and all sorts with it.”

Aside from photography, Kieran loves reading and computers. His conditions can make life difficult with Kieran having faced bullying previously, his mum said.

Claire added: “It’s impressive because with his Tourettes he has motion tics rather than verbal tics. So it’s really good that he’s able to hold the camera still that long to be able to create these shots.”

Kieran has just been bought a digital camera to hone his skills and now has ambitions to pursue it further. It is hoped that when he selects options in Year Nine, photography could be among the subjects.

“I think he will go far with it because he’s a really friendly boy and he’s got a massive heart – he’ll do anything for anyone,” said Claire. “If you’re struggling he’ll help you, he’ll help anyone.

“His big brother hadn’t saved anything for holiday but he’d saved £200 so he gave his brother £100. He’s got got a big heart.”
