Art Unlimited on South Street, Bridport, closed its doors for the last time at the weekend after announcing in July it would be shutting.
Owner Howard Flanagan said that with ‘much sadness’ to store would cease to operate after being in the town for nearly four years.

He said: “It’s so bad, it’s having an effect on everyone. We need a reality check on rent. Businesses need some support as far as rising costs and rates go. By putting up minimum wage from an employers point of view, it’s crippling. I’m all for fair wages but they have to be funded some how.”

The paintings, drawings and sculptures that were sold in the shop were from both local artist and people from all from over Europe at price points that were affordable to everyone.
It did not matter that artists had professional training or were commercial. What mattered was that the art was unusual and unique.

As well as removing Art Unlimited from the high street, the owner confirmed that the online service will also shut down. The lease officially runs out in December.

Mr Flanagan was grateful to the town for their support of the businesses throughout the years.
“We’ve worked with some brilliant artists and met some fantastic people and loyal customers, and we thank you.”
