Champion UK flat jockey talks life and misdemeanours ahead of the publication of his book this autumn
Oisin Murphy.
Oisín Murphy found communion with horses at a young age. From being the only work rider in the yard light enough to ride out uncle Jim’s 2014 Cheltenham Festival winner, Spring Heeled, to cementing his place as one of the greatest flat jockeys of his generation – Oisín’s ascension has come via an intersection of unimaginable routes.
He is once again within touching distance of the British Flat Jockeys’ Championship, which culminates on October 18. Nine days earlier he releases ‘Sacrifice: A Year in the Life of a Champion Jockey’, a book that promises a ‘searingly honest’ account of life in the saddle leading up to his fourth title in 2024.
