Latimer Court, Darwin Avenue, near Newtown Road, has celebrated a “Good” rating from the report published by the Care Quality Commission on Friday (October 23) following an unexpected inspection.

The care home, operated by Barchester Healthcare Homes, received positive results across the board.

The report stated: “We carried out an unannounced assessment in response to concerns about the standards of care being provided.

“Overall, we found people were cared for well and felt safe. The service was clean, well maintained and had a homely atmosphere.

“People were supported to access healthcare professionals when required, and staff took time to listen to people, respond to their needs and interact with them in a kind and respectful manner.”

However, the report did identify some areas where the care home could improve, such as its medicine optimisation.

The report stated: “The provider did not always ensure medicines and treatments were managed safely and in a way that fully met people’s needs, capacities and preferences.”

Inspectors found that the care home was “inconsistent” with its records and administration processes.

This included not fully completing medication assessments, failing to date topical creams to ensure they were disposed of when no longer effective, and instructions for applying creams lacked detail and could lead to medication being administered incorrectly.

The report said: “Despite these findings, we found no evidence that people had experienced harm as a result.

“We also identified several areas of good practice within medicines management.”

Angela Bradford, managing director for Barchester Healthcare’s central west division, said: “We are delighted that Latimer Court has maintained its overall Good rating across all five areas of the inspection and that inspectors recognised the kindness, care, and respect shown by our team to our residents.

“We acknowledge the areas identified for action and are committed to addressing them as part of our ongoing focus on providing the highest quality care.”
