Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have announced the appointment of Australian Ryan Carr as their new head coach. Carr will make the move to Castleford ahead of next season in a switch that the Tigers will hope can signal the start of a new era for the club.

Carr is no stranger to West Yorkshire having coached at Featherstone Rovers previously before returning down under to work in the NRL as an assistant coach. He is currently working under Shane Flanagan at St George Illawarra Dragons, who lost handsomely to South Sydney Rabbtiohs earlier today.

Carr has penned a three-year deal with the Tigers, but he’ll finish the season with the Dragons before heading over to The Jungle to meet up with his new team.

“It’s an exciting opportunity, it’s a proud historic club is Cas and I’m aware of where the clubs been, where it came from and where its going,” Carr told the club following his appointment.

“I feel a lot of excitement on the direction that the club is heading in the near future. It deserves to be better than where it is, and that’s where we need to take it. I feel the opportunity, and the room for growth is really fast at the club – I’m excited to get started”

Director of rugby Chris Chester, who looks set to remain in charge until the end of the season, said: “I’m delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Carr.

“Ryan is an experienced coach having worked in the UK with Featherstone, Leeds and in the NRL with Parramatta and St George.

“He’s a highly thought about coach who has a great knowledge of the game and a great work ethic.

“I can’t wait to start to work with Ryan to make sure we get the Castleford Club where it needs to be.”
