The young striker left Lancashire this week after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. Mafoumbi did not make an appearance for the first team and was not part of Rovers’ plans.

In their statement, Rovers cited a new club in the offing for Mafoumbi as part of the reason behind the early termination. He has now been confirmed as a new signing for Lausanne.

His exit also frees up a valuable ESC slot for Rovers, allowing them to sign another player who does not meet the 15-point GBE work permit criteria.

It was a logical step for player and club with Mafoumbi using a valuable ESC slot and having little chance of breaking through to the first team under Valerien Ismael.

Elsewhere, former Rovers loanee Andrew Moran has taken an unusual next step in his career after moving on loan to Major League Soccer side, LAFC.

The Irish midfielder spent 2023/24 on loan at Ewood Park before returning to the Championship with Stoke City the following campaign. Brighton & Hove Albion have now sent him to America to gain further experience in what is a surprising switch.

“Andy is an exceptionally talented young player, who has already shown his quality at a high level,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington.

“We are confident that he will strengthen our group immediately, and we look forward to supporting his growth at LAFC as we continue our pursuit of trophies.”
