Argyle have made a third acquisition of the week, bringing in forward Lorent Tolaj from Sky Bet League One side Port Vale.
The Greens activated a substantial release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract, and he joins the club immediately on a four-year deal.
Tolaj has become one of the EFL’s hottest properties with a reputation as a clinical goal scorer and his career so far emphasises that emphatically.
The Swiss youth international started his journey at FC Sion, before a move to Brighton’s youth teams. He was prolific for their U18s and U23s but was released at the end of his contract.
He joined Aldershot Town upon his release and scored 21 goals in 48 games for the Shots which earned him a move to Vale, where he scored 16 goals in his debut season to help them to League Two promotion.
Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley is delighted to bring Tolaj to the club, commenting: “Lorent is someone who has had a monumental rise up the footballing pyramid and we are thrilled that he has chosen Argyle as the next step on that journey.
“Wherever he has been he has shown he is a proven goal scorer, with an incredible record at every club and we are confident he will translate that to an Argyle shirt.
“I’ve been vocal throughout the window that we wanted the right number nine in the building, and although it has taken longer than we all would have hoped, I couldn’t be happier that we have managed to bring Lorent to the club.”
Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox added: “Lorent is clearly a goalscorer as his record shows, but he is also much more than that.
“He is technically very good, physical and holds the ball up well. He will suit Tom’s style of play perfectly but also has lots of room for growth and development which is equally as exciting.
“I want to welcome him to Argyle and look forward to seeing him in a green shirt soon.”
Lorent will wear the number 9 shirt and be available for tomorrow’s game, subject to EFL approval.
