New Star Wars rumors have emerged online.

The next Star Wars movie will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is being directed by Jon Favreau and is a continuation of Disney+’s The Mandalorian show. That film currently has a May 22, 2026, release date. After that, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighting — starring Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, and more — hits theaters on May 28, 2027.

Several more Star Wars projects are in the works; however, none of them have release dates at this time.

What is the new Star Wars rumor?

Patty JenkinsRogue Squadron movie is now back in development, according to scooper Daniel Richtman.

It was announced in December 2020 that Wonder Woman’s Jenkins had been tapped to direct a movie titled Rogue Squadron for Lucasfilm, with the film originally having a December 22, 2023, release date. The project was delayed before being completely removed from Disney’s release date calendar in 2022.

Jenkins told Collider in 2024 that she was working on the project again; although, there haven’t been any substantial updates since then, and many have been left wondering if Rogue Squadron will ever actually come to fruition.

While the latest update from Richtman is promising, it is only a rumor at this time and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt, as there’s been no official Rogue Squadron announcement from Lucasfilm at this time.

Richtman also reports that a “new Star Wars film” is in the works, per Cosmic Marvel on Twitter, though no other details beyond that were given. Additionally, James Mangold’s Star Wars movie is said to begin production next year, according to the scooper. Mangold previously described that project, which will explore the origins of The Force, as a “Biblical epic” he compared to The Ten Commandments when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
