A public health alert was issued in the northern Greek resort town of Neos Marmaras after five tourists reported symptoms of food poisoning to Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY), allegedly after eating meat from a local food stall.

The tourists were treated at the General Hospital of Polygyros and have since been discharged in good health, according to state broadcaster ERT.

Health inspectors visited three nearby food stalls, which were found closed. Authorities later confirmed that while the vendors had been granted permission to use public space by the local port authority, they did not have the required licenses to operate or sell food.

Officials have ordered the suspension of all permits related to the stalls’ operation as investigations continue.
