Salford Red Devils

Rowan Milnes has become the latest man to join up with Salford Red Devils until the end of the Super League season. The half-back has joined the club from Hull KR on loan with KR announcing he has penned a short-term deal in east Hull until the end of the season.

It’s been a strange few weeks for Milnes, who joined the Robins on an initial loan from Castleford Tigers earlier this month. The deal was for two weeks with Willie Peters speaking about the role Milnes had been brought in to play on the training ground.

He failed to make an appearance in red and white during that loan spell, but the club have decided to take him from the Tigers until the end of the season. Milnes won’t be sticking around, though, with the half-back immediately being shifted to the Red Devils on loan.

And, just hours after the deal was confirmed, Milnes is expected to make his debut for the Red Devils this evening as Paul Rowley’s side take on Leigh Leopards at Leigh Sports Village. Milnes will be the ninth loan player in Rowley’s squad, following on from Emmanuel Waine’s switch from Bradford Bulls last night.

He is also be the third KR player to make the move to Salford this week with Leon Ruan and Louix Gorman in contention for the Red Devils this evening. The 25-year-old, who will continue to train with KR during his loan, will provide a half-back option for the Reds and his presence in the fold should give Rowley’s young side more direction and nous with the ball in hand.

The half-back has made 12 appearances for the Tigers this term after establishing himself as one of Danny McGuire’s starting playmakers.

However, he hasn’t played for the Tigers since McGuire sacking at the start of July and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Tigers have cut ties with the playmaker.

Milnes spent the best part of two seasons at Castleford, making 36 appearances and scoring 10 tries. He spent four seasons as a Hull KR player prior to that, featuring in red and white on 49 occasions, and started his career with Bradford Bulls.
