This weekend, Emyvale Cycling Club is hosting the National Masters Cycling Time Trial and Road Race Championships.
Approximately 300 riders are coming from all over Ireland, North and South to compete in this prestigious national event.
The event takes , place on open roads with the cooperation of An Garda SÃochána and Monaghan County Council. The event HQ is at Ardgahy Community Centre and the roads being used are fully signposted and marshalled and all locals homes and businesses have been called to with information leaflets.
The format and roads affected are from 10am, individual riders will roll out from Ardgahy Cross heading South at 1minute intervals. They will pass the top of Braddox, Scotch Corner, through Cremartin and turn around just after Cremartin for the reverse trip to the finish.
While on Sunday from 10am, large bunches of up to 100 riders at a time will be racing on the road from Ardgahy heading for Monaghan, turning towards Ballybay. Just before Ballybay, they’ll turn left for Tullycorbett and back through Ardgahy for another 25 km lap.
Racing will be continuous from 10am through to 4:30pm. Bunches of these riders will be travelling at well over 50kmph at times, so we ask all road users to be vigilant and pay heed to our safety marshal’s guidance.
