“I don’t actually know who she would feel like she could lean on… Maybe Nina?” she said.

“She’s a really good friend to Asha, and of course they got together which didn’t work out, but they’ve remained really good friends.

“But I don’t think Asha will want to talk about this to anyone because she feels so alone and doesn’t want to admit that to anyone.”

It doesn’t help that all of this happens just as Asha’s twin brother Aadi departs, leaving her without the person she’s relied on her entire life.

Next week’s episodes will see Lisa Swain come to Asha’s aid and encourage her to let her superiors know about what happened on her shift.

Speaking about the storyline, Gorey said: “I feel honoured to be trusted with a storyline of this scale and significance.

“Stepping into the shoes of a trainee paramedic and exploring the highs, lows, and emotional challenges of their work has been both moving and eye-opening.

“It’s a role that carries a huge responsibility, and I hope we’ve done justice to the reality so many face. If this story reaches even one person, sparks a conversation, or offers a moment of understanding, then it’s served its purpose.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX and YouTube.
