Fiona Phillips’ husband has shared a heartbreaking admission regarding the former GMTV host as she continues her fight against early-onset Alzheimer’s.

The ITV personality received her devastating diagnosis back in 2022 when she was just 61 years old. Now aged 64, she receives round-the-clock care from her 66-year-old spouse Martin Frizell, who previously worked as an executive producer on This Morning.

During a BBC interview with Newsnight’s Victoria Derbyshire earlier this year, Martin revealed: “I don’t think Fiona’s ever going to be able to taste a glass of wine again, walk on a beach properly again, go on holiday again, go to the theatre, go to the cinema, drive her car, cook a meal for her children.

“And my worry is, on her deathbed whenever that may come and hopefully a long time from now, will she even know who we are? There’s no remission for Alzheimer’s.”

The couple have just published their memoir Remember When, which documents Fiona’s ongoing health struggle, reports the Express.

Following the book’s climb to number one on the Sunday Times Bestseller list, Martin shared another poignant message on Instagram.

He posted: “I’m sitting under a pink awning hence the colour of the Sunday Times Bestsellers list – the chart everyone wants to be on. And for the fifth consecutive week, Fiona is on the bestsellers list (she made No1).

“She wants to say a massive thank you to everyone who has shown interest in her story, it’s really lifted her mood.

“Can I also thank the many folk who have been in touch with their own stories, suggestions of new treatments and memories of Fiona from her working days.

“I attach my favourite picture of her from a TV location shoot and shows what a force of life and vitality she had.

“It’s from one of the many photo albums we flick through as we enjoy Sting’s essential collection – he’s replaced the Stylistics!”

He went on to say that the pair, who have been married for 28 years, often sit together to look through their photo albums while listening to The Police.

Earlier this month, Martin appeared on ITV’s Loose Women where he gave an emotional update on Fiona’s condition.

“The good news is that there’s some improvement in terms of her mood,” Martin said. “Not so much in terms of Alzheimer’s but in terms of being able to have get better sleep, and better appetite.”

Martin then went on to say that his wife has “less confusion” after the new anti-depressant she’s been given.

“If anything, she’s in a much better place than she was a few weeks ago,” he continued. He said his wife becomes frustrated while watching TV, now she’s unable to do the on screen work she perfected and loved for decades.
