New data has identified the top 10 ‘middle-class property hotspots’ in the UK – with FOUR from Greater Manchester making the list.

The figures, found by Savills Real Estate and commissioned by the Telegraph, looked at smaller areas rather than the wide boundaries of local authorities.

Council boroughs, which can encompass a wide range of demographics, populations and housing types, ‘don’t account for nuances’, according to the paper.

Instead, their analysis focused on the ‘built-up areas’ whose house prices had increased the most in the last decade – and where these were 50pc higher than their regional average.

Of the top 10, a whopping FOUR areas were found in Greater Manchester: Sale in Trafford, Marple in Stockport, Altrincham in Trafford and Gatley in Stockport.

Only two other places in the north made it into the top ten: Rawdon in Leeds and Whitley Bay in Tyne and Wear.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was a Trafford borough that came highest in the region. House prices in Sale have increased by 77pc in the last decade.

Altrincham, with its thriving food market, independent cinema and seven grammar schools, came ninth, with an increase of 67pc.

Tom Burke, of the Savills branch in Knutsford, told the Telegraph that Altrincham was ‘one of the few places in the North West’ that ‘has the vibe of a London suburb’.

Recent data published by the Manchester Evening News found that, while Altrincham continues to have the highest average sale price of any postcode in Greater Manchester, house prices there have in fact fallen by 7.6pc.

There were also two entries from on-the-up Stockport in the Telegraph’s top ten, though the paper did not feature any analysis as to why.

House prices in Marple in Stockport saw an increase of 74pc over the last decade, while in Gatley, which came tenth, that figure was 65pc.

But house prices in Gatley’s postcode, SK8, have in fact fallen slightly as well. The average house price in the 12 months to May 2025 was £371,972, down 2.6pc from the year prior.
