Leeds completed their fifth addition of the summer with the signing of Sean Longstaff.

Daniel Farke needed Premier League experience in his squad, and he has added that with the former Newcastle man.

Longstaff has 171 top-flight appearances to his name, with 10 goals and nine assists for his boyhood club in that time.

Farke’s midfield options now look very strong with the likes of Ao Tanaka, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev also at his disposal.

Leeds confirmed the signing of Longstaff (19 July) after finally overcoming a hurdle involving the potential fee with the Magpies.

The Peacocks eventually agreed on a £12million deal, with a potential for an extra £3m in add-ons if certain goals are met.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Geordie will be a key man for the Whites next season after he completed his move.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He is a good solid signing, brings bags of Premier League experience, and the price is right at £12m.

“It is tough for anyone to get past Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Joelinton, so from being in the chorus line at Newcastle, he becomes centre stage at Leeds.”

Leeds could secure another ex-Magpies ace with the signing of Callum Wilson on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old left St James’ Park at the end of the season after five years on Tyneside and has been linked with the Elland Road outfit.

The LS11 outfit needs an upgrade upfront, with doubts about Championship top scorer Joel Piroe‘s ability to lead the line at the elite level, and Wilson could be a good option if he can prove that he is over his injury issues.

They could reunite Longstaff with his former teammate, which would help him settle in Yorkshire after leaving his homegrown club, where he had been since the age of nine.

One thing is for sure: Farke’s business is far from over, and there could be plenty more deals before the new season begins, in several positions to help them survive.
