We’ve yet to hear anything official about PS6 and its supposed handheld companion device, but there has been lots of hearsay and “leaked” information flying around regardless — and the latest rumour is an interesting one.
A recent video from YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead claims to have seen up-to-date documentation from tech company AMD, detailing the specs of the PS6 handheld unit.
Codenamed Canis, the device will apparently be dockable — much like Nintendo’s Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
In other words, if this is to be believed, the PS6 handheld can be docked and connected to an external TV or monitor, and may even offer better performance while docked.
The video is dense with technical information about specifications and so on, but we thought this detail would be worth picking out, as it sounds like Sony could be planning to compete with Nintendo’s hybrid approach — in addition to offering regular home console SKUs.
Unfortunately it’s impossible to know how accurate all this is until Sony opens up about its next-gen plans. That won’t likely be for another couple of years or so.
Still, the prospect of a dockable handheld is quite an exciting one.
Is that something you would want out of PS6’s handheld version? Would this feature persuade you to get the handheld instead of the home console? Discuss in the comments section below.
