Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers director of rugby Chris Chester doesn’t expect to see Tom Amone play again this season.

Amone has spent much of the campaign with Castleford but will join Super League leaders Hull KR next season following a frustrating stint down under earlier this year.

He’s been one of the Tigers’ most consistent performers too, making 15 appearances in black and amber with his one try coming in the win over Hull FC back in June.

However, the forward’s season might just have come to a premature end after hitting the deck in the 16th minute of Thursday night’s contest between Castleford and Leigh. Amone looked in visible distress as the Tigers’ medical team rushed to his side before taking off his boot and helping him from the field.

The prop never returned to the action and while Chester wasn’t able to offer a full prognosis when speaking after the game. He admitted the signs didn’t look good for the prop.

Castleford Tigers chief gives Tom Amone update

“I’d be very, very surprised if we see Tom Amone again this year,” Chester said after the game. “He was devastated when he came off the field, he obviously wanted to play.

“Tom has always played big minutes at Leigh and for us as well, so he was devastated when he had to leave the field.

“It doesn’t look great, he’ll go for an X-ray or a scan. I’m really sad for Tom but I’m just pleased that I’ve been able to work with him because he’s a fantastic human being.

“I remember that very first phone call when I signed him [at Leigh], he was concreting with a mate. We got him over on a cheap deal that he keeps reminding me off but he’s an unbelievable human being. He’s got a lovely family and he’s put everything into this club.

“We need another 13 Tom Amones. I’ll be sad to see him go but he’s got a contract there at Hull KR and I’m pretty sure he’ll be a another success at Hull KR.”

Willie Peters, who will be preparing for this evening’s game against St Helens, will almost certainly be checking in with his 2026 recruit when he has chance.
