IN ADDITION to the recent Echo “Have Your Sayers” ongoing concern and comments relating to cycling on the Weymouth Esplanade – the abuse of regulations during busy summer months has existed for many past years.

Some while ago, a mindless cyclist was weaving in and out of pedestrians before colliding with a wheel chair and disabled young person.

On another occasion a woman cyclist was riding on a crowded Esplanade ringing her bell at anyone in her way.

This summer, Weymouth Beach Control positioned “No Cycling” notices on the Esplanade – unfortunately these generate little or no respect, with cyclists appearing to ignore the request.

Which leaves one to consider are they blind, unable to read or just a law unto themselves?

On a positive side, the odd cyclist does respect the situation by dismounting and walking with their bike – Thank you!

The increasing lack of respect for many areas of the UK has become an unfortunate way of life over recent years.

With little enforcement from Beach Control, selfish cyclists will continue to ride their bikes and ignore toothless regulations, knowing that any form of prosecution is unlikely.

Finally, an additional menace has arrived at the moment with a “Look at me” young man on roller blades weaving and swerving up and down the Esplanade at high speeds, and obviously aware that at the moment there are no regulations or laws in place to control his dangerous high testosterone levels.
