Ashby Gentry, who plays Alex in the Netflix hit My Life with the Walter Boys, has opened up about his character having a serious “glow up” in season 2. For those who have watched, you’ll know that this series had a very dramatic ending: Jackie told Cole that she was in love with him… a couple of episodes after she’d told his brother Alex she also loved him. But the major plot twist? Alex heard the entire conversation. It’s giving cliffhanger.
Now, 26-year-old Gentry has spoken out about his character, revealing that the younger Walter sibling is having his own “The Summer I Turned Pretty” moment.
Noah LaLonde, the actor who plays Cole, chipped in on the conversation, noting that he had never really thought about it that way. But, said that it “speaks to the fact” that these two brothers “admire each other, maybe even subconsciously.”

“Imitation is the strongest form of flattery,” Gentry replied.
“You know, these guys are still young, so all they can do is look to people who’ve had success. And I think, in the terms of this family and the dynamic of the show, Cole’s had success being that confident person,” added LaLonde. And, while he said some of it was a facade in series one, he stated that Alex had success being the “noble, humble younger brother.”
“So I don’t think it’s any accident that they ended up taking a little bit from each other’s successful methods,” he concluded.

Gentry echoed this sentiment, revealing that when they were shooting season 2, it definitely crossed his mind. While he didn’t think the brothers “switched places,” per se, he suggested that the boys may have repeated phases or behaviours.
“I think that Alex is the younger brother, and maybe he’s going through a similar kind of transformation that Cole went through, but I don’t think it’s quite the same.”
Gentry then added that he’s been very vocal about his interest in Cole’s season 2 arc. Throughout shooting, he would often say to people that he liked watching what was happening with the character, because it felt like such an introspective journey.
“And I think that’s really cool on this show.”
Season 2 of My Life with the Walter Boys is now streaming on Netflix.
