SINGAPORE – There will be road closures in the Marina Centre and Padang area for a week in October, to set up and tear down temporary fixtures for the Formula One night race.

Roads affected include Raffles Avenue, Raffles Boulevard, Esplanade Drive and St Andrew’s Road, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a release on Aug 29.

The roads will close from 12.01am on Oct 1 and all roads will be fully accessible by 5.30am by Oct 7.

The public and ticket holders to the Oct 3-5 Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix are strongly encouraged to take public transport when the roads are closed, said LTA.

The following affected routes will be reopened during peak hours to facilitate morning and evening peak hour traffic.

During the road closure period, motorists can still get to the Marina Centre area via Rochor Road to Temasek Boulevard, or through a single lane along Raffles Boulevard via Nicoll Highway or Temasek Boulevard. Buses and vehicles with registration plates starting with W, X or Y will not be allowed entry.

Motorists can access the roads only from midnight to 6am, 10am to 5pm, and 10pm to midnight on Oct 1, Oct 2, Oct 3 and Oct 6.

On Oct 4 and 5, they can do so only from midnight to 1pm. They can also do so from midnight to 5.30am on Oct 7, with all roads being reopened thereafter.

Taxis and motorcycles can use the single-lane access at all times, except during the race hours. Taxis and private-hire cars are allowed to pick up and drop off passengers only at designated taxi points and driveways.

Carparks at Suntec City, Millenia Walk and Marina Square will remain open to the public.

In addition, some train and bus services will operate later than usual from Oct 3 to Oct 5.

At City Hall station, the last trains in all directions will depart at 12.30am on Oct 3, and at 1am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

On the Circle Line, the last train from Dhoby Ghaut station towards HarbourFront will depart at 11.55pm on Oct 3, and at 12.25am on Oct 4 and Oct 5. From HarbourFront station to Dhoby Ghaut, the last train will depart at 11.30pm on Oct 3 and at midnight on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

On the Thomson-East Coast Line, the last train from Woodlands North station towards Bayshore will depart at midnight on Oct 3, and at 12.30am on Oct 4 and Oct 5. From Bayshore station towards Woodlands North, the last train will depart at 12.12am on Oct 3 and at 12.42am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

Public transport operator SMRT said several of its bus services will also run later that weekend.

The last buses for services 300, 301, 302, 307 and 983A will leave Choa Chu Kang interchange at 1.40am on Oct 3, and at 2.05am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

From Woodlands interchange, services 901, 911, 912A, 912B and 913 will depart at 1.25am on Oct 3, and at 1.55am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

The 920, 922 and 973A services will depart from Bukit Panjang interchange at 1.25am on Oct 3, and at 1.50am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

Service 974A will depart from the bus stop opposite Choa Chu Kang MRT station at 1.40am on Oct 3, and at 2.05am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

Services 181, 240, 241 and 243G will leave Boon Lay interchange at 1.20am on Oct 3, and at 1.50am on Oct 4 and Oct 5.

Tower Transit’s bus services 77, 97, 97E, 106, 167, 656, 663, and 857 will skip certain stops from Sept 30 to Oct 6. For more information, visit

Go-Ahead Singapore’s bus service 36 will not stop at The Float @ Marina Bay bus stop from Aug 27 to Oct 6.

Thirty-seven SBS Transit bus services will skip bus stops along their regular routes from Sept 30 to Oct 6, the operator said on Aug 29.

The services are 10, 10e, 14, 14e, 16/16M, 32, 51, 56, 57, 63, 70/70M, 80, 100, 107/107M, 111, 124, 130, 131, 133, 145, 166, 174, 174e, 195, 196, 196e, 197, 652, 660/660M, 671, 672, 675, 676, 677, 850E, 851 and 851e.

The affected roads include Nicoll Highway, Beach Road and Collyer Quay.

During this period, bus arrival timings will not be available for these 37 bus services on SBS Transit’s mobile app and website, the operator said.
