More than 600 people are dead and over 1,000 injured after a major earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan last night.
According to the Kunar Disaster Management Authority the quake measured 6.0 magnitude.
The earthquake shook the east of the country near the Pakistan border at 11.47pm local time (8.17pm UK time on Sunday), the German Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said, the Mirror reports.
The quake reportedly shook buildings from Kabul to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad around 370 kilometres away for several seconds. There was a second earthquake in the same province about 20 minutes later, with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 10km (6.2 miles). This was later followed by a 5.2 earthquake at the same depth.

Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
Naqibullah Rahimi, a spokesman for the Nangarhar Public Health Department, said 15 people were injured and taken to the local hospital for treatment.
