Jannik Sinner defends Alexander Bublik after US Open thrashing

“As I said we don’t have to forget that he had a five-set match and it finished very late, against Tommy, is a different player. It can happen. This is the sport.

“Some days are good, and some days are not good. Maybe I have a day where things don’t work, and then I lose easy. You never know what’s happening. It’s very unpredictable, the sport.”

Jannik Sinner on facing Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals

Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti will play their first match since 2023. Sinner has beaten his compatriot twice, including that last win at Monte Carlo.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see. It’s a bit different when you play the same, or from me being Italian playing against another Italian, they are always a bit different matches. But in the same time, he’s an amazing player, very, very talented. He is playing some great tennis.

“He has struggled a bit during the season, but now he finds himself in an amazing form and shape. The pressure is on me. But in the same time most of the times the pressure is a little bit more me than on the opponent, so let’s see what’s coming.

“I like these challenges. It’s great from an Italian point of view to have, for sure, an Italian playing the semis of a grand slam.

“Now these things seem normal, but they are not normal.”

Amanda Anisimova sets up Iga Swiatek rematch in US Open quarter-finals

What a one-sided day of tennis we’ve seen on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

After Jannik Sinner dropped just three games against Alexander Bublik, Amanda Anisimova drops just three of her own in defeating Beatriz Haddad-Maia.

A very impressive performance and it sets up a quarter-final with Iga Swiatek, which is an immediate rematch of their Wimbledon final.

Swiatek, of course, won that match 6-0 6-0. It can’t go any worse for Anisimova but it will be very different on Arthur Ashe.

Jannik Sinner reveals what Alexander Bublik said to him at the net

“We know each other very well. We had some tough battles. Especially this year. He just said congrats and wished me all the best. He had a very tough match in the last match. Today he didn’t serve as well as he usually serves. I broke him very early in every set which gave me the confidence to serve a bit better. I’m very very happy.”
