Directed by Finn Keenan, it casts O’Donnell – who is best known for her character Michelle in the hit comedy – in a new role.

She plays an exasperated desk worker who escapes the office in a van emblazoned with “Free Mo Chara”.

Speaking about her appearance in the video, O’Donnell recalled having “the best time” filming the piece.

“Not only is it a massive banger of a track but the intense yet euphoric video is sure to be remembered,” she told NME.

“The creativity and vision of director, Finn, created a fantastic environment for us all to create something really special.

Here we fucking go 🔥

“I was delighted to have been asked to be involved in this project especially as I am already a huge fan of Kneecap’s music and an admirer of their work overall.”

Kneecap shared a link to the three minute and 21 second video for the song, written and recorded in collaboration with Orbital‘s Paul Hartnoll, on social media.

“Here we f****ing go,” it posted on X.

“Sayōnara is out now in all the usual spots.

“We’ve seen yis going mad for this one in mosh pits all summer…a collab between us and the legend Paul Hartnoll of Orbital.

“Now brought to life with a video featuring Jamie Lee O’Donnell, just as big a fenian – massive GRMA to Finn Keenan for directing this one.”

The track will also be available on vinyl as a double A-sided 12” due to be released on October 10 – it will also include ‘The Recap‘ track which was performed during the band’s incendiary Glastonbury 2025 set.

Video director Keenan said the “intensity” of the video was intended to reflect the aftermath of a mad night out.

“Through conversations with the band, we also wanted to nod to Belfast’s rave history” he explained.

“In the ’90s, raves weren’t just parties — they were acts of resistance, dangerous but vital spaces where Catholics and Protestants could go to be together and dance.

“That spirit is what fuels the scene of Jamie Lee driving the pimped-up Kneecap Land Rover across the city — a kind of rave Pied Piper, spreading the idea that art, music, and creativity can break down the metaphorical walls which are often stronger than the physical ones.

“Pent up anger and frustration are released through dance instead of turning into hate.”

The new video dropped just days after Kneecap played the main stage of Electric Picnic on Saturday (August 30).

The band’s set went ahead after festival boss Melvin Benn insisted there would be no censorship of the performance amid increased scrutiny following a Met Police investigation.

The probe resulted in band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh’s (27) being charged with a terror offence after allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a London gig last November.

The defendant, who is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court again on September 26, denies the charge of supporting a proscribed terrorist group.

The band has previously said its members do not support Hamas or Hezbollah.

On Friday, Kneecap hit out at the DUP and the Alliance Party on stage at Belfast Vital for trying to “cancel this gig” as the rap trio made a return to the city.

It was the first time Kneecap performed to a home crowd since December last year.

There were chants of “free free Palestine” during the set.

The band has embraced its controversial status as reflected in the track ‘It’s Been Ages’ including the lyric “since we made the front pages”.
