For the past few years, Stud Las Monjitas has been steadily internationalizing its operation, which remains rooted in Argentina. Now, it has been confirmed that one of their top runners is set to head abroad in search of major victories.
On September 11, Natan, a dual Grade 1 winner, will embark on the long journey to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he will join the stables of Antonio Cintra and Julio Olascoaga to begin preparations for the Meydan International Carnival, culminating with the Dubai World Cup (G1).
“He was ready to run on Stars Day and then travel, but an unfortunate crack in a hoof capsule prevented him from participating. Aside from these recurring issues, he has had no other problems. At our training center, the ground gets hard, and that impact doesn’t help. He’s a mature, professional horse with the ability to succeed in Dubai. We hope he can enjoy a successful campaign because he deserves it for all he has given us,” said Tomás Fernández Llanos, a key member of the Las Monjitas team, confirming the news.
The 6-year-old son of Señor Candy out of Nuit (Orpen) enjoyed a brilliant career in Argentina, notching three wins, including the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) in 2022—in a memorable photo finish over El Musical (Il Campione)—and the Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (G1) in 2023, where he comfortably defeated stablemate Jazz Seiver (Super Saver).
Bred by Haras Carampangue, Natan also finished second in the Polla de Potrillos (G1), Estrellas Juvenile (G1), and Gran Criterium (G1); third in the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1); and fourth in the Clásico Macon (L). His most recent start came in the Gran Premio Joaquín S. de Anchorena (G1) last December, where he returned from a year-long layoff to finish twelfth.
Natan has proven versatility, performing strongly on both dirt and turf, and in Dubai he will target mile-and-up contests. He will be one of three Las Monjitas runners for the upcoming season, alongside Satu (Catcher In the Rye, G1) and the Brazilian Nam Phrik (Hofburg), who both campaigned last season with mixed results.
Las Monjitas has several Argentina-bred runners competing abroad. Just last weekend, Violeta M (John F Kennedy)debuted in the U.S., finishing fourth at Del Mar, while this Thursday Happy Happy Day (Hi Happy) will contest an optional claiming at Kentucky Downs. Additionally, Queen Sienna (Fortify) recently relocated north after a standout career in Peru. Violeta M and Queen Sienna are trained by Chilean Marcelo Polanco, while Happy Happy Day is under Brazilian conditioner Paulo Lobo.
Las Monjitas’ goal extends beyond sending runners abroad—they aim to build teams with South American trainers and jockeys to strengthen the region’s turf.
Soon, Natan will depart in pursuit of new ambitions, ready to reclaim glory in the highly competitive UAE racing scene, where Antonio Cintra and Julio Olascoaga await him with high expectations.
