Huddersfield Giants Prop Forward Matthew English has been granted a testimonial year by the Rugby Football League in 2026!
The 27 year old came through the Giants Scholarship and Academy to establish himself as a fixture in the clubs Super League squad since joining the club in 2012. The blond haired prop , nicknamed the Polar Bear by many fans has made 146 appearances scoring 9 tries in the heart of the Giants pack.
Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis paid tribute to a man who has seen many things at the club and remained loyal throughout.
“Firstly this is a deserved accolade for Matthew and one the club were delighted to see recognized by the RFL when our supporting application for him went in. He consistently shows all the attributes you want as a “clubman” and someone who your proud to be around. His dedication and commitment to his craft is there for all to see week in week out on the field but its his off field commitment that like many Rugby league players can go under the radar. Matthew has never shirked a visit to help others and recognized his role as a leader to many and someone to look up to. He is an extremely popular member of the squad , and always has been with his infectious personality and never say die attitude on the field. His work in the community is recognized by the award of a testimonial alongside his long service to the club and I sincerely hope that all our supporters and partners will get behind him and support all his events in 2026. I know he has some big plans and it will be a busy year for him and Sophie but one that I’m sure they’ll enjoy and reap the rewards from. “
Matthew English said “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to have a testimonial. To play 10+ years at the Giants, I was over the moon so I’m really looking forward to next year. It’s making me feel old now, I’ve made some lifelong friends and hopefully there will be many more years to come.”
