The world premiere of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale came with a plot twist no one saw coming — Michelle Dockery revealed she’s expecting her first child.

The actress stepped onto the Leicester Square carpet in a striking blue duchess satin Prada gown with an added a touch of fairytale grandeur with its trailing chiffon train. If you were looking for a “leading lady moment,” this was it.
The neckline was softly curved, though I couldn’t help but wonder how a straight finish might have sharpened the silhouette. Also, with maternity style, the fabric and fit are often a moving target, so the choice of ease and grace over structure would have made more sense. This brought to mind Vanessa Kirby’s own pregnancy press tour — where stretch fabrics, comfort and glamour all went hand in hand.
Michelle completed the look with a cascade of diamonds shined brightly on a miserably went London evening. Luckily, that hemline stayed mostly dry.
The Downton Abbey chapter may be closing, but for Michelle Dockery, a brand-new one is just beginning — and what an enchanting way to announce it. Congratulations Michelle and Jasper Waller-Bridge.
