New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that Irish, Indian and British nationals had earnings above the national average last year.

The CSO said the median worker earned €730.89 a week last year, an increase of 4.5% year on year.

Today’s figures show that Indian workers had incomes averaging €876.04 a week – though that was down year on year.

After Indian nationals, UK nationals had median weekly earnings of €780 while Irish nationals had median weekly earnigs of €762.72.

The CSO noted that Ukrainian workers had the lowest incomes at less than €500, while the incomes of Brazilian workers was also below the average at €563.

Today’s figures show that Irish nationals accounted for 72.5% of all employment in Ireland, and non-Irish nationals accounted for 27.5%.

After Irish nationals, the highest proportion of employment was for those with Polish (3.2%), Indian (3.1%) and UK (2.7%) nationalities.

They also reveal that for Irish nationals, 26.4% of employment was in the 15-24 and 60 years and over age groups. This compared with 13% for non-Irish nationals.
