Hollyoaks spoilers follow for the latest episode to air on E4, which is also available on streaming.

Hollyoaks’ Tony Hutchinson has received some heartbreaking news in the latest episode, while things elsewhere have taken a surprise twist.

Tony is currently doing time in prison for the murder of Bobby Costello (even though Jez Blake is really responsible) and he’s been struggling to cope.

On the advice of Misbah Maalik — who stated that Tony would be the first person out there looking for the missing Morgan Osborne and is therefore a good man who’s done a bad thing — his ex-wife Diane went to visit to him.

In the visiting room, Tony admitted how difficult he’s finding it inside and apologised to Diane for sleeping with Mercedes McQueen.

“I’m sorry for being unfaithful to you,” he said through tears. “You were right. Even though we weren’t together, it was cheating.

“The only thing that’s getting me through is the thought that one day, you’ll forgive me.”

However, Diane pulled her hands away and said: “No, I’m sorry but you’ve hurt me too much, Tony. And I don’t think we can ever get back together. But listen, you’ll always be in the kids’ lives, because they need ya.”

A devastated Tony weakly replied: “Yeah. I need them too. My life has no meaning without my children, and when I get out of here, I’m gonna be the best dad any kid has ever had.”

He added: “And no matter what, we’ll always be family, and nothing will ever get in the way of that.”

As his dialogue played out, the soap cut to Tony’s other ex Marie Fielding sitting a table alone, and to Mercedes taking a pregnancy test…

Could Tony’s fling with Mercedes lead to even more drama?
