A Salford Red Devils loanee has left the field on a stretcher during their match against Catalans Dragons, after a bad tackle left him unconscious.

Emmanuel Waine was making just his second Salford appearance, after joining the club from Championship side Bradford Bulls.

Taking in a carry from the kick off, the powerful enforcer drove the ball in from the back line, but was met with the shoulder of Dragons forward, Franck Maria.

In what was ugly scenes at the Salford Community Stadium, Waine hit the deck straight away, and didn’t move as he was knocked out due to the collision.

Referee Matty Lynn, who was officiating his first ever Super League match, sent the Frenchman off the field, in what is Catalans’ second red card of the season.

After a lengthy stoppage, the PNG international was carried from the field, and was met with a round of applause as the Salford faithful supported one of their own.

The moment occurred just after the half hour mark, where Salford were leading 10-6. Jack Darbyshire opened the scoring, as the Leigh Leopards loanee linked up with Hull KR’s Leon Ruan to score.

Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet crossed to get one back for the away side, but couldn’t convert his own try, leaving the scores at 6-4.

Neil Tchamambe then  crossed for his first Super League try, after impressing significantly in his first few senior appearances.
