Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley believes Louix Gorman has earned a first-team opportunity at Hull KR.
Gorman has spent the last couple of weeks on loan at Salford, but has been recalled by the Robins this week ahead of the club’s derby clash with Hull FC on Sunday.
The centre made two appearances for Salford and played his part the club’s memorable win over Warrington Wolves last week. However, he returns to KR, where he has made just one appearance in his career so far.
That outing came against Wigan Warriors in 2023 and since then he has earned experience with Featherstone Rovers and London Broncos, with Salford being his third loan move of the season.
The 20-year-old has plenty of competition for places at Craven Park, with Peta Hiku and Jack Broadbent currently holding down the centre spots, while Oliver Gildart is on the verge of a return, too. However, Rowley believes he is more than ready for that opportunity, should it come his way.
“Leon [Ruan] is with us, Gorman’s gone back,” Rowley told Serious About RL on Wednesday afternoon.
“Louix has been absolutely fantastic for us. He was good against Leigh and he built on that against Warrington, in particularly what he did defensively with some of his reads.
“I think he’s earned a chance in the Hull KR team. I’m not sure if he’ll start a starting spot or he’ll feature, but I hope he does.
“It’ll be good to see him and I guess that will be rewarding for our club that we gave him that platform. He certainly took it with both hands and committed wholeheartedly so I’m really pleased for him.”
Salford Red Devils team news
Gorman isn’t the only man dropping out of the Salford fold this week with Jayden Nikorima suffering a shoulder injury that could be expected to keep him sidelined for some time. Esan Marsters is fit enough to come into the side, though, and he’ll fill the void left by Gorman.
“That will be Jayden now for the year. Unfortunately for him he’s got a little fracture in his shoulder so that’s him done,” Rowley added.
“One out, one in. We lost our centre back to Hull KR this week and so having Esan back just fills that void. Luck or judgement we just manage to keep filling those holes and getting a team out there. Esan is a fantastic player and we’re really fortunate.”
