BBC viewers all said the same thing after The Guest launched on the streaming platform earlier this week. Filmed and set in Wales, the four-part thriller series focusses on the toxic relationship between business owner Fran and her cleaner, Ria. The first of four episodes aired on BBC One on Monday, but many viewers couldn’t wait until next week to watch the second episode of the series.

Fans had a lot to say about the first hour of the thriller series, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Taking to social media, one fan said: “A great start to #TheGuest, looking forward to the rest.” Another added: “That ending to the first episode of The Guest was NOT how I expected it to go!”

A third wrote: “Oh. My. GOD! #TheGuest is fun, twisty, flirty, thrilling! Eve Myles and Gabrielle Creevy are perfect in this. So well written and beautifully directed. And filmed in Wales! Loved, loved it, loved it.”

A fourth added: “That was soooo goood!! Jaw dropping end and a right OMG!! ‘GASP’ at the end. Right….No.2 Episode coming right up.”

Despite The Guest airing each Monday evening on BBC One, all four episodes have dropped on iPlayer all at once for those who prefer to “binge watch” their favourite shows in one sitting.

Viewers were glad they had the option to stream the show, with many rushing over to start the second episode immediately after watching the first.

On X, one fan said: “LOVING #TheGuest Couldn’t watch ep2 quick enough. Go see for yourself!!” while a second said: “I’m binging the lot.”

More added to the conversation on X: “Who’s binge watching , brilliant first episode”, “See ya at 3am gotta binge watch this” and “Omg how good was #theguest feel a binge watch coming on.”

The four-part series tells the story of Fran and Ria whose lives become dangerously intertwined by shared secrets and an obsessive co-dependence. Their relationship reaches dangerous and manipulative levels, described as a “psychological game of cat-and-mouse”.

The synopsis says: “The Guest is a fast-paced story that centres on the toxic and beguiling relationship between a successful business owner, Fran (Eve Myles), and her employee, Ria (Gabrielle Creevy).

“Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world. So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life, and when Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged.

“However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots. What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?”

Speaking to the BBC about stepping into the shoes of a powerful businesswoman Fran, Welsh actress Eve Myles shared: “Fran is about opulence, wealth and confidence, she lives a life like none of us would ever see and there’s a mystery behind this woman.

“She’s someone that I’ve very rarely got to play before, and it’s been great fun tapping into Fran Sharp’s character. When you meet her at the beginning and then start to scratch the surface, she becomes a very different person.”

All episodes are now available on BBC iPlayer and they will also air each Monday on BBC One at 9pm.
