A recent report suggests that Bayern Munich were close to acquiring another Liverpool star after Luis Diaz.
Bayern Munich reportedly nearly signed another player from Liverpool after acquiring Luis Diaz.
The German giants signed the Colombia international for £65.5m during the summer transfer window, after three and a half years with the Merseyside club.
Bayern then brought in Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea with an obligation under certain conditions, and the Senegalese player is expected to cover for Harry Kane and possibly operate out wide for Vincent Kompany’s team.
However, it has now been reported that the Bavarians had another Liverpool forward on their shortlist of targets for the concluded window.
Bayern ‘considered’ Liverpool’s 18-goal forward
According to Sky Sports News, the Bundesliga club considered signing Dutchman Cody Gakpo in the summer.
The former PSV Eindhoven star scored 10 Premier League goals for Arne Slot’s team en route to the 2024-25 title, with a further eight strikes bringing his total to 18 in all competitions.
The report states that Bayern’s extensive list of targets included Gakpo, although the forward has since extended his Liverpool contract, potentially keeping him at Anfield until 2030.
“It’s nice. Of course, I have experienced it differently myself,” Gakpo said.
“Such a transfer window can be hectic and stressful for a player and everyone around him. That doesn’t bother me anymore.”

However, the earlier high-profile signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for a deal worth up to €95 million (£82.4m) could affect Gakpo’s playing time.
With Ekitike likely to feature more on the left side of Liverpool’s attack to accommodate the Reds’ new number nine, Gakpo’s minutes might be affected.
Having played from the start in all three Premier League matches against Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Arsenal, it will be interesting to see how Slot manages his squad after the September international break.
